Forever And A Day

I AM

Copyright 2006.

Something I was struck by in my biblical studies is that the Scribes and Pharisees were amazed at how Jesus taught during His sermon on the mount. 'As one having authority.' I used to think this concerned Him telling people what the bible said, not, 'Isaiah said in Isa 53:5' etc.

However, I've come to realize that they were amazed because He was stating 'this is what the Law says, but I say...' and He took the law from rules that people could seek to weasel around, to the heart of the matter, that is, your heart.

Jesus was reminding them that God sees the heart, and knows what you are thinking, and that's a sin also.
By speaking with 'authority', Jesus was saying that His Word was Law. Which would only be true if He WAS God!

This song, in no uncertain terms says that Jesus is the Great I AM. There's strong language here.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
It was early afternoon,
they had left the teeming town
Many followed Him around
And the view was quite profound
So the Master settled down
And the people gathered round
And He opened up His mouth and He taught them.

Bridge:
YOU say "Do not murder.
those who do will die."
But I say "If you're angry, hate him, call him names,
I say you're just as guilty, too."
YOU say, "Don't have sex outside your marriage.
Those who do are judged."
But I say, "If you look at her, with eyes of lust,
I say You're just as guilty, too."

Verse2:
Well the Pharisees and Scribes
Sat and listened in surprise,
As He taught, apparently
With as much authority
As the Holy Scriptures do,
So they said, "Just who are you!?"
And He opened up His mouth, and He told them:

"I AM the Word! I AM the Light!
I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life!
I AM the Door! I AM the Gate!
I AM the Friend who gives up His life!
I AM the Vine! I AM the Bread of Life!
I Am the Fount of Living Water!
Come and drink of Me!
I AM the Alpha, and Omega!
And I swear to you,
Before Abraham was,
I AM!
I AM!"

Verse3:
They said, "We'll put a stop to this!"
And they betrayed Him with a kiss,
And they nailed Him to a tree
For all the World to see.
And they put Him in the ground
With a squad of soldiers 'round.
But He rose on the Third Day,
As if to say,

Chorus:
